Managing Unintentional Account Deletion Requests
If one of your customers has accidentally initiated an account deletion request, there are ways to reverse the process before data is permanently removed.
Why This Matters
In compliance with Google’s Data Safety Policy, users must be able to request deletion of their accounts through the app or a designated URL. While this is essential for data privacy, it also means some users may request deletion unintentionally.
What Does "Account Has Been Marked for Deletion" Mean?
When a user initiates a deletion request:
- Their account status will be flagged as "Marked for Deletion".
- A confirmation email will be sent to the user.
- Admins are alerted and must manually accept or reject the deletion request.
Until a final decision is made, the account remains active but in a pending deletion state.
Accidentally Requested Deletion? Here's What to Do
If a customer reaches out and says they didn't mean to request account deletion:
- Locate customers with pending deletion requests by toggling "ONLY DELETION REQUESTED" in the Customers dashboard.
- Check the user profile to confirm the deletion status.
- Review the request and choose Reject if deletion was clearly unintentional.
- Once rejected, an email notification will be automatically sent to the customer informing them the deletion request has been canceled.
Not Sure If the Request Was Intentional?
If you're unsure whether a customer actually intended to delete their account:
Reach out to the customer directly to confirm their request before taking action.
This can help prevent accidental deletion of accounts and associated data.
Valid Reasons for Rejecting Deletion Requests
Admins have the discretion to reject account deletion requests. Common reasons include:
- Unpaid balances
- Active or unresolved disputes
- Customer confirms they did not intend to delete
Permanent Account Deletion Notice
⚠️ Once an account deletion is approved and processed, all associated customer data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
The customer will need to create a new account if they wish to use the service again.
There is no way to restore deleted accounts, so always confirm intent before approving deletion.
