Remote Key Access: Enhanced Vehicle Control
This document outlines the operational protocols for the Remote Key Access feature, which utilizes an internet connection to facilitate vehicle lock and unlock commands. This provides an essential enhancement by eliminating the physical distance constraints previously associated with vehicle access.
Operational Overview
The Remote Key Access system ensures connectivity and functionality regardless of the user's proximity to the vehicle. The application is able to use this communication channel (when enabled), defaulting to the internet connection when the user is outside of short-range proximity.
| Communication Method | Traditional Bluetooth (Short-Range) | Remote Key Access (Internet-Based) |
| Connectivity Requirement | Close physical proximity (within a few meters). | Stable cellular or Wi-Fi data connection for both the mobile device and the vehicle. |
| Command Execution Speed | Near-instantaneous. | Variable, typically requiring several seconds due to data routing over the network. |
Procedure for Remote Vehicle Operation
The execution of a lock or unlock command remains unchanged from the user's perspective.
-
Open the Application: Open the vehicle control application on your mobile device.
-
Verify Connectivity: Ensure your device has an active internet connection (cellular data or Wi-Fi).
- Start Reservation: Access your active reservation and initiate it.
-
Initiate Command: Select the Lock or Unlock control button within the application interface.
-
Confirm Status: The command is routed through the central system to the vehicle.

⚠️ Note on Latency: Due to the relay process over the internet, a successful command execution may require a brief delay (several seconds) before the final status is confirmed.
Reservation Checkout Protocol
To enforce vehicle security at the end of a reservation, the application includes a mandatory door status validation.
-
Attempt Checkout: When the user selects to conclude the reservation, the application initiates a request to obtain the vehicle's current door status.
-
Status Validation:
-
If Locked: If the vehicle is reported as securely locked, the checkout process will proceed.
-
If Unlocked: If any vehicle doors are reported as unlocked, the application will automatically send a LOCK command.

-
-
Mandatory Action: If the automatic lock command is unsuccessful (e.g., due to poor signal), the user will be formally prompted to manually reissue the Lock command and wait for the successful vehicle confirmation before finalizing the reservation checkout.
Please be aware: If you reach the maximum number of allowed attempts in a day, the application will display the following message:

Operational Guidance and Troubleshooting
| Issue Description | Cause (System Context) | Required User Action |
| Command is delayed or unresponsive. | Weak or intermittent internet connectivity affecting either the mobile device or the vehicle's onboard communication unit. | Exercise patience. Allow a full 15 seconds for the command to complete. If the issue persists, relocate the vehicle to an area with improved cellular signal. |
| "Too Many Attempts" Message Displayed. | System protocol limits the frequency of internet-based commands to prevent network overload. (Limit is one command per 10 seconds). | Wait a minimum of 10 seconds before initiating the next command request. |
| Access Error / Command Fails to Execute. | The vehicle is not currently assigned to an active reservation (e.g., reservation is expired or incomplete). | Confirm the current status of the reservation. If the reservation is active, contact your fleet support for credential verification. |
