Samsara Telematics Integration
How Samsara connects to Mission Control, what vehicle data it provides, and how to set it up.
Overview
Launch Mobility integrates with Samsara so you can use your existing Samsara telematics devices to power your fleet in Mission Control. Once connected, vehicle data from Samsara, such as location, odometer, and fuel or battery level, flows into Mission Control automatically. No additional hardware is required.
What the integration provides
With Samsara connected, Mission Control shows the following for each linked vehicle:
| Category | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| Location | The vehicle's latest GPS position |
| Vitals | Odometer and vehicle battery level |
| Fuel / Charge | Fuel level (gas vehicles), battery state of charge (EVs), or both for hybrids |
| Status | Door lock status, where the vehicle reports it |
Each reading shows a last updated timestamp so you always know how current it is.
This data supports everyday Mission Control features such as:
- Viewing where vehicles are and their current condition
- Mileage and fuel/charge readings at the start and end of reservations
- Alarms and notifications that rely on vehicle data
- Reporting, including distance-based usage
How often data updates
Mission Control checks Samsara for new data every 5 minutes. If you need a fresher reading, you can request one at any time from the vehicle's Telemetry panel in Mission Control (see Refreshing vehicle data below).
What you'll need
Before connecting, make sure you have:
- An active Samsara account with a user who has permission to approve third-party app access (typically a Samsara administrator).
- Accurate VINs in Samsara. Vehicles are matched between Samsara and Mission Control by VIN, so the VIN on each Samsara asset should match the VIN in Mission Control.
Tip: If you only want some of your Samsara vehicles shared with Launch Mobility (for example, just your pool vehicles), let your onboarding team know. Vehicles can be identified with a tag in Samsara, such as pooled=yes.
Connecting Samsara to Mission Control
The connection uses Samsara's secure authorization process. You'll log in with your own Samsara credentials; Launch Mobility never sees or stores your Samsara password.
- Log in to the Samsara dashboard in your browser first. This makes the next steps smoother.
- In Mission Control, go to Settings > Brokers.
- Find Samsara and click Connect.
- You'll be redirected to Samsara. Review the requested permissions and click Allow.
- You'll be returned to Mission Control, where Samsara will show as connected.
Once connected, the link stays active until it's disconnected in Mission Control or access is revoked from within your Samsara account.
Linking vehicles
After the account is connected, your vehicles are linked to their matching Samsara assets:
- Automatic matching: Mission Control matches vehicles to Samsara assets by VIN.
- Manual linking: If a vehicle can't be matched automatically, it can be linked using its Samsara vehicle ID. You can find this in the Samsara dashboard: open the vehicle and look at the number in the page address, e.g. cloud.samsara.com/o/…/devices/281474995105204/vehicle.
Refreshing vehicle data
To get the latest reading for a vehicle:
- Open the vehicle in Mission Control.
- Click ⋯ > Update Information.
- In the Telemetry panel, click ⋯ > Refresh.
Keyless access and Samsara
Samsara is a telematics (vehicle data) provider. It does not support Bluetooth phone-as-a-key access through the Launch Mobility app.
If you'd like keyless access for vehicles with a Samsara Gateway, Launch Mobility offers Ascend Access. Ascend Access pairs your existing telematics device with a supported keyless device. The Samsara Gateway keeps supplying vehicle data, and the keyless device lets drivers unlock and lock the vehicle from the Launch Mobility app. Your Launch Mobility team can help you choose the right keyless option and plan the setup.
Troubleshooting
Vehicle data looks out of date
- Refresh the vehicle's data (see above) and check the last updated time.
- Confirm Samsara still shows as connected under Settings > Brokers.
- Check that the vehicle is powered and reporting in the Samsara dashboard.
A vehicle isn't showing Samsara data
- Check that the VIN in Samsara matches the VIN in Mission Control exactly.
- If you use tags to select vehicles, confirm the vehicle has the correct tag in Samsara.
Received an email asking you to reconnect Samsara
- Your organization's connection needs to be re-authorized. An administrator with Samsara access should repeat the steps in Connecting Samsara to Mission Control.
