Understanding Lockdown Mode
Lockdown Mode is a security and compliance feature designed to ensure vehicles are properly secured at the conclusion of a reservation. It acts as a digital safeguard by preventing a driver from completing the "Check-out" process if the vehicle's doors are still physically unlocked. This minimizes the risk of unauthorized access or theft due to unsecured fleet assets.
How It Works
The system uses real-time telemetry to verify the physical state of the vehicle's hardware before allowing the user to proceed to the final checkout screen.
-
Door Status Validation: When a driver attempts to end their reservation, the app requests the latest telemetry data from the vehicle.
-
Mandatory Locking: If the system detects the doors are UNLOCKED, the driver is prompted to send a "Lock" command via the app.
-
Compliance Check: The app will only allow the user to continue to the next screen once a LOCKED status is confirmed by the vehicle's hardware.
Configuration Modes
Depending on your organization's security requirements, this feature can be configured with different levels of enforcement:
-
Strict/Lenient Mode: In these modes, the app enforces the telemetry check and requires the vehicle to be locked before the reservation can be finalized.
-
Optimistic Updates: To ensure a smooth user experience, the app uses optimistic UI updates to show the next step as soon as a successful lock command is acknowledged, while still validating the final status in the backend.
Benefits for Fleet Managers
-
Enhanced Asset Security: Ensures that vehicles are never left vulnerable in public or shared parking areas at the end of a trip.
-
Reduced Liability: Decreases the likelihood of incidents related to unsecured vehicles.
-
Automated Enforcement: Removes the need for manual oversight or physical checks by staff to confirm vehicle security.
