Understanding Your Background Check
To ensure safety, Launch Mobility conducts background checks for all the drivers. This document explains what a background check is, why we do it, and what you can expect during the process.
What is a Background Check?
A background check is a process where we look into a person's history to confirm their identity and check information like criminal records or other personal details. It helps us make sure the drivers are suitable, reliable, and don't pose any potential risks. Our background check provider is Checkr.
Why Do We Conduct Background Checks?
We conduct background checks for several important reasons:
- Legal Compliance: We are required by law to inform you that we will be performing a background check as part of your registration.
- Safety and Trust: This process helps us ensure that only qualified and safe individuals are driving, contributing to a safer environment for everyone.
- Risk Management: It helps us reduce potential risks associated with unqualified drivers.
- Transparency: We want to be clear with you about how we collect and use your information during the registration process.
How the Background Check Process Works
Before we can perform a background check, we need your permission and some essential information.
Step 1: Background Check Disclosure and Your Consent
During your registration in the mobile app, you will see a "Background Check Disclosure". This disclosure explains that we may obtain information from a consumer reporting agency to determine your eligibility for our service. This might include details about your character, reputation, personal characteristics, and lifestyle.
You will need to read this disclosure and actively confirm that you understand and agree to it, usually by checking a box, before you can continue with your registration. This step ensures we have your informed consent and helps us meet legal requirements.
Step 2: Providing Your Information
To complete your background check, we will ask you to manually enter some personal details:
- Your Driver's License ID
- Your ZIP code
- Your License Expiration Date
- The State where your license was issued
- Your Social Security Number
- A digital signature to authorize the background check and any associated fees
This information is crucial for us to perform a thorough check and verify your eligibility.
Step 3: What Happens Next?
Once you've provided your information and consent, we send your details to Checkr, our background check provider.
- Invitation: Checkr will create an invitation for you to complete the background check process on their website.
- Status Updates: We receive updates from Checkr about the status of your background check.
- If the invitation is completed, your application status will be updated to "IN PROGRESS" while we await the full results.
- If the invitation expires, your status will be reset to "NOT STARTED," and a new invitation will need to be created.
- Once the background check report is finished, your status will be updated to "PASSED" if it was successful, or "FAILED" if it was not.
How Long Does a Background Check Take?
Most background checks are completed within 1 to 3 business days. However, some may require a longer processing time due to the need for manual review. The specific duration can vary based on the type of search and the particular areas it encompasses.
Important Considerations:
- Accuracy of Information: Please double-check all the information you enter. Errors can delay the background check process.
- Privacy: We understand that providing sensitive information like your Social Security Number can raise privacy concerns. We collect this data securely and only use it for the purpose of the background check.
Third-Party Involvement: The actual background check is performed by Checkr, a third-party service.
Note: This extra background check is only needed if you’re a driver who requires prior registration before getting on the road. If registration isn’t necessary for you, just log in with your existing information and you’re all set to Drive!
